Terrified children being ripped from their parents and imprisoned alone in cages.
The news coming out of the United States this week is horrific beyond belief. I can barely look at it. And the response from our federal government has been shameful and completely unacceptable.
Considering the urgent nature of the immigrant and refugee situation at the borders in Donald Trump’s United States, the Broadbent Institute is calling on our Prime Minister and the Government of Canada to immediately suspend the “Safe Third Country Agreement” with the U.S.
The U.S. is simply not “safe” for immigrants, particularly immigrant children, and Canada should not treat it as such. Human rights are not negotiable.

The Donald Trump administration is endangering the lives and well-being of innocent children and families.
Trump’s actions keep getting more extreme. Over the past few months alone, he has attempted to institute a “Muslim ban”, pulled out of the United Nations Human Rights Council and showed no signs of backing away from his incarceration of thousands of innocent kids at detention camps in the desert. There must be swift international condemnation for these actions. And as Canadians, I know you will agree, we need to do our part.
