Broadbent Institute announces Robert Reich as Progress Gala keynote

Author and policy leader to address high-level November event

OTTAWA—Renowned economist and author Robert Reich will be the keynote speaker at the Broadbent Institute's second annual Progress Gala this November in Toronto. Reich, a high-profile business commentator and expert on the income inequality crisis, will make the case for a fairer economic future to an audience of political leaders and policy influencers.

"At a time when income inequality is top of mind for so many Canadians, I couldn't imagine a better Progress Gala keynote than Robert Reich," said Broadbent Institute Executive Director Rick Smith. "Reich has a proven track record advancing economic policies that are designed to increase prosperity and build fairer, more equal communities."

Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration, Reich is a professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley and the author of 13 books. His latest project, the award-winning Inequality for All, is a must-see documentary.

Reich's participation in the Progress Gala underscores the Broadbent Institute's commitment to shining a light on increasing income inequality in Canada and advancing positive solutions to address the problem. The Gala falls on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the unanimous passage of a motion in the House of Commons to end child poverty in Canada; Institute Chair Ed Broadbent tabled the motion as a Member of Parliament.

"Robert Reich is a tremendously engaging speaker and the Broadbent Institute looks forward to welcoming him to Toronto," said Smith. "It promises to be a special evening that will be both entertaining and enlightening."

The Progress Gala will take place on November 20, 2014 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. For more information, visit www.broadbentinstitute.ca/gala.
